Optimise your skin care to fit your age
There’s an infinite array of lotions and creams which promise to look after your skin and keep you looking younger and healthier. However, you should never simply grab the latest product simply based on a strong marketing campaign.
Making the right skincare product choices is essential in maintaining a healthy glow throughout your life. Whilst your skin age may not always match your birth age due to lifestyle choices and genetics, a rough guide to making the right choices will help you find your way through the maze of products and keep your skin fit for years ahead.
In Your 20s…
Now is the time to develop good habits and set-up a routine which will form the basis of excellent, healthy skin for life. In your 20s, many of the skin issues you see come from carefree living (and neglect) such as partying, drinking too much, pulling all-nighters and lying in the sun without sunscreen. There might be lingering acne from the teen years as well.

In Your 30s…
Sun worshipers will see an increase in fine lines and damage like dark spots and loss of elasticity—but it’s never too late to get with the (sun protection) program.
Use a cleanser which removes makeup and lightly exfoliates using PHAs.
Use an eye cream both day and night to hydrate the skin around the eyes and increase suppleness.
Use an antioxidant-rich moisturiser, serum or lotion which also has UVA protection.
Avoid over treating your skin but it’s wise to increase the amount of attention you give it.
In Your 40s…
Sun damage continues to show up as uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. And many 40-somethings contend with hormone-related problems such as acne and premenopausal dryness.
Use SPF daily to prevent further damage and choose a product that contains antioxidants to fight free radicals and help reverse some of the damage you already have.
Retinoids and peptides are two ingredient groups that you should add into your routine. Peptides can help rebuild collagen, especially when used in combination with skin texture-improving retinoids like retinol.

In Your 50s and beyond…
